Understand what 3qts is before you buy it, it’s not big but not tiny. I feed three with it just fine. It comes to pressure slower than a manual pressure cooker and doesn’t slow cook as well as a CrockPot. I have a zojirushi for rice so don’t use that. I use sear and pressure cooker and it works perfectly for that.
So far it’s easy to use and clean and seems built very well.
I just had my Instant Pot delivered! It came very well packaged, very impressive at how well it was nestled into it's box and now I'm reading all the directions. Also there are a couple YouTube host's with tips for new owner/users. One in particular I am now subscribing to with great tips for new users and a bevy of recipes that I'm looking forward to tying. I will up date this review as I begin to gain experience with it's use and will try to share my journey in culinary arts with my new pressure cooker. ☺️
Our first meal was beef neck bones. I set the timer for 3 hours and when it was done the meat fell off the bones while scooping them out. The next night I cooked more neck bones and reduced the time to 2.75 hours and the meat still fell off the bones so cooking various meals will take some experimentation with the time.
When the time you set finishes, it will take awhile for the steam to release before you can safely remove the cover. The default setting is for the cooker to stay on "keep warm" setting. This will prolong the time it needs to cool and vent so I unplugged it when the timer finished. The time it takes to cool down and vent by itself will vary so that should be taken into account if you want your meal ready by a specific time. Bottom line: consider adding 30 minutes + or - for the pressure cooker to vent. If you're not using the pressure cooker mode this won't impact you.
The pot is a heavy gauge stainless steel and the instructions warn you not to fill it more than 2/3 high. It has a ~ 34" SJT rated (water/oil resistant) heavy duty detachable power cord vs. the standard 24" appliance cord which is nice.
The instruction booklet details how to operate it.
Here’s my method:
1. Boil the milk using the Instant Pot.
2. Open the lid and let it cool down to 100–112°F.
3. Add 2–3 spoons of yogurt as a starter for the best results.
4. Press the yogurt button again and set the timer for 6 hours.
The result is thick, delicious yogurt every time. I’ve completely stopped buying store-bought yogurt since using the Instant Pot! If you’re on the fence, this is a game-changer for yogurt lovers.
I haven’t used that function yet but intend to.
Easy to operate and clean. It’s heavy, but it has to be; it’s a workhorse.
These pressure cookers can be used as a Crock Pot also. As a child in the 1940 I remember the day my Aunt was cooking a meal in her cooker. I was in the yard playing and heard a loud bang and a scream!!!! I ran inside to see what was going on. My Aunt Matt was laughing, a little, and looking at the meal dripping off the ceiling and running down the walls. She was also wearing a good bit of the meal.
The old pressure cooker had exploded!Today you would never see, or hear one of these models blow-up. They are built like a bank vault!!!!! "Git ya self" one!!!!!

Well, I must say, WOW! I made a beef birria last night and in one hour it was all done. I used the sauté function to give the meat a once over and then I switched to the pressure cooking function and added the sauce I made for it. It cooked for 45 minutes, pressure released for 10 and voila, DONE! Probably one of the best birrias I’ve made thus far. So much flavor! I also pressure cooked some beans and those were also done in about 40minutes.
This instant pot is pretty bulky so I was concerned it wouldn’t fit in my kitchen but no biggie I was able to store in my pantry perfectly! Besides the size only made it easy to serve and dig around for the meat.
I have not tried any of the other functions yet but so far I’m loving the pressure cooking function, slow cooker, and sauté function. I absolutely love you can delay cooking also. Overall I am very satisfied!
In that review I write a lot about my buying process and why I bought the IP over other brands.
So, I've decided to stay with the IP line and bought the 3 quart. My Mom has 2 sets of real twins, so this is my version of twins.
First, it was a great price on Black Friday. I tie up my 6 quart a lot with yogurt that takes 12 hours to make,
then I put the inner pot in the fridge for a good 6+ hours. I also do a lot of batch cooking a couple of days a week,
so I figured it warranted a 2nd pressure cooker and since it was on sell.....well, there you have it.
It's probably not big enough to cook a chicken, but I can make my 2 quarts of yogurt in it and whatever sides.
The 3 quart doesn't have as many preset buttons as the 6 quart.
No multi-grain, sterilize, egg, bean/chili or cake but we know those are just presets.
It's time that matters. The 3 quart has the low and high pressure and less, normal and high.
The two photos I've attached is the 6 and 3 quart side by side and the front of the 3 quart showing the preset buttons.
I have the IP 3 quart for a lot of reasons I have the 6 quart. It's just a little smaller and now I can take it to Florida
where we winter and it actually fits in one of my mobile home cabinets.
It's a great addition to the "family".

I live in a Sprinter van full-time and was using an induction burner for cooking, but since I've gotten this little gem, I haven't used the induction burner once!
This is so easy to use, and it's the perfect size for one or two people. I've been making a lot of stews, and I'll saute the onions, carrots, and meat (if I'm using meat) then add everything else, seal it, and set it for 7 minutes on high pressure. I let it release naturally and have a perfectly cooked, tasty meal every time. This gives me enough for 4 or 5 servings.
I also quick soaked beans the other day by covering them with water, hitting pressure for 5 min. then letting it release naturally and let it sit (not on keep warm) for a couple of hours.
I'll often make dinner right after I reheat my lunch, and make sure the keep warm function is on. I'm able to drive with it in my sink and have a hot, healthy, delicious meal waiting for me when I'm done driving.
I've even baked banana bread in it!!! So exciting, because I don't have an oven. It turned out SO good! I used one of the containers and the lid from my To-Go Ware stainless steel lunch container to bake it in on the rack.
Because this cooks so quickly, it is very easy on my solar system. I can reheat leftovers on saute in 4 minutes, and it's only drawing 67a while it's on.
I did have a VitaClay, that I absolutely loved for making beans, and especially bone broth, but it takes much longer to cook and is heavier. So, more battery drain, more storage space, and more weight as compared to the Instant Pot Mini and the Mini wins on each count!
